The Point – Orlando, Florida

REVIEW:

Orlando is chalk full of lodgings in every size, shape, and price point.  From regular hotel rooms to family sized condos to luxury suites – everything is within reach to meet a wide variety of travelers’ requirements and budgets. Some of these resorts are located on golf courses, some are adjacent to convention centers, and several are contained on the properties of Orlando’s most renowned theme parks – Disney World and Universal Studios. But if you’re looking for a place that has it ALL, try The Point.

When we were asked which hotel we were reviewing in Orlando, many people responded with, “I’ve never heard of it,” which caused us some concern.  But within minutes of arriving, our concerns were entirely put to rest.  And we grew more and more impressed as well as fond of the place as the week unfolded.

Conveniently located only 2 miles from Universal Studios, the Orange County Convention Center, and Wet ‘n Wild water park, it is also just a stone’s throw from International Drive, which hosts a variety of restaurants, stores, hotels and gift shops.  Yet, despite the proximity to anything and everything one might need, The Point is not located in the thick of the action.  Instead, it is on the quiet end of Universal Blvd, where there is very little traffic and minimal noise.

The twin-tower South American style of this sophisticated resort is complemented with a welcoming yellow exterior and comes complete with an exercise room, a concierge, and a Barista handily located adjacent to the lobby.  The cute and cozy cafe set-up offers breakfast in the mornings and tasty pizza, sandwiches, and snacks throughout the rest of the day.

A large heated outdoor pool is harmonized with a tropical patio atmosphere, topped off by a cabana bar, a comfortable seating area, and large flat screen TVs.

Compared to some hotels in the area, the resort fee is nominal at $11.50 per day and is fully worth it considering this includes free Wi-Fi, free self-parking, local phones calls, in-room coffee, and a shuttle that services all the major theme parks.

As for the rooms, The Point boasts modern studio accommodations that include a handy kitchenette.  And the one and two bedroom suites are extremely clean and roomy, with fully stocked kitchens, washer/dryers, and an oversized bathroom complete with a walk-in shower and a whirlpool tub.

Pool view or city view balconies provide visitors with spectacular scenery of forested areas and golf courses, and a lookout to many of Orlando’s attractions, including glimpses of Disney World’s nighttime fireworks display.

Undeniably, the crowning glory is the staff, who are knowledgeable, friendly, and will go out of their way to ensure that visitors are happy with their stay.  From management to front desk staff, and from barkeepers to housekeeping services, everyone at The Point understands what it takes to run a pleasurable resort.

PROS:  Great Location.  Quiet end of Universal Blvd.  Reasonable Rates.  Reasonable Resort Fee. Rooms are spacious, clean and modern. Friendly staff and excellent service.  Beautiful pool, well maintained.  Convenient lobby cafe.  Plenty of parking spaces.

CONS:  To be honest, for our experience, we didn’t find many drawbacks with this resort.  However, if pressed to name something, they would include slow elevators and noisy washer/dryers that can overwhelm in-room conversation and television and can be heard outside the room in the common hallway.  Perhaps something heavier than the current louvered bi-fold door is necessary to contain the noise.

Big enough to be impressive and competitive with the bigger hotels, but small enough to provide personalized service, The Point scores high on location, amenities, layout, cleanliness, and staff.

The Point is ON POINT!!
