Opening today (July 15th) Croatia enjoys its first major theme park – Fun Park Mirnovec, which is expected to see an annual attendance of approximately 200,000 visitors.
Construction began in April of last year on the 45,000 square metre grounds, with 20 attractions spread over 3 themed areas that include the Wild West, Space and Pirate City. Builders liken the park to Gardaland in Italy, which is a 3-hour drive away.
The park will feature 2 roller coasters – a looping design and one that resembles a mine train, plus there is a standard and obligatory Ferris Wheel, a swinging ship, pirate water ride, bumper boats, swing ride, train ride, spinning cups, and Sky Fly. The breakdown is that half of the attractions will be aimed at families, 30 percent to young children, and 20 percent to teenagers.
Given that Mirnovec’s primary business is that of pyrotechnics, the park will naturally contain an emphasis on pyrotechnics and fire. One day ticket prices will be set at 200 kunas (approximately 30 euros), with children entering for free on their birthdays.
Several dining and retail outlets will be made available on the premises, along with an arcade and an amphitheatre for live entertainment.
Future plans include construction of an aquarium with the type of tunnel design seen at Sea World and Ripley’s Aquarium and a ‘Red Carpet’ waxwork museum.
