By now, most travelers are familiar with the news that Dubai is currently in the throws of building a panoramic Ferris Wheel that will outdo the London Eye. The ambitious project, slated for completion in 2018, is increasingly closer to being realized as the spindle was recently moved into place.
At 204 meters tall (669 feet), the wheel will outshine the infamous London Eye at 135 meters (443 feet) and the High Roller in Las Vegas at the Linq Hotel at 167.6 (550 feet).
Upon completion, this new Dubai attraction will be capable of accommodating 1,400 visitors in 48 capsules made by Hyundai. The capsules will be air conditioned and have wooden floors and modern benches.
However, the name of Dubai Eye, as it was originally thought to be, has more recently been changed to Ain Dubai. ‘Ayn’ is the sixteenth letter of the Arabic alphabet, which translates as ‘eye’.
The Ain Dubai will serve as the centerpiece of Bluewaters Island – a new Dhs6 billion project which will include a range of entertainment, hospitality, residential and retail zones as well as the Ferris wheel.
